Space for Time

The space for time  study uses an intensive and comprehensive approach to compare low elevation, Spartina alterniflora marsh areas to higher elevation Spartina patens marsh areas.

PIE LTER location and sample dates for sites used in space for time sea level rise study, Rowley, MA.

Abstract:

This dataset contains the GPS-ed locations of the quadrats used for the 2017-2018 Space for Time substitution experiment in tidal creek marshes off the Rowley River and Plum Island Sound in Rowley Massachusetts. The space for time  study uses an intensive and comprehensive approach to compare low elevation, Spartina alterniflora marsh areas to higher elevation Spartina patens marsh areas.

Methods:

GPS coordinates were taken by a mix of phone software (GPSTour for the iPhone) and Differential GPS. All plots with elevations were taken using differential GPS. Distances to creeks or forest edge were measured using 2017 maps of the PIE area within Google Earth. As sites were sampled over multiple dates, here we supply the date that bird surveys were first taken at sites which corresponded roughly to the middle of a week in which sites were sampled.

Maintenance:

On going collection.
