Compilation of Land Use Data in 21 and 37 Category Classifications - Ipswich and Parker River Watersheds - 1971, 1985, 1991, and 1999 - Vector Shapefile.

Abstract:

The MassGIS Land Use datalayer has 37 land use classifications interpreted from 1:25,000 aerial photography. This layer contains data for 21 and 37 category classifications for the years of 1971, 1985, 1991, and 1999. Coverage is complete for all towns that fall partially or completely within the Ipswich River and/or Parker River watersheds. Data compiled for 1971, 1985, 1991, and 1999.

Methods:

In ArcMap, the database file HISTORY was joined to the data base file for LANDUSE based on the RELATEID Field.

In ArcMap, towns within our study area were selected from LANDUSE and a new layer was created from this selection. Towns were selected by attribute, based on their Town_ID code. The following Town_IDs were selected: 9, 30, 31, 38, 48, 71, 92, 105, 116, 119, 144, 164, 184, 205, 206, 210, 213, 229, 246, 254, 295, 320, 298, 324, 342, and 347. The selected features were then exported as a new layer, TOWNSFROMLU.

In ArcMap, the features in TOWNSFROMLU were brought combined based on the TILE_NAME field, using DISSOLVE.

The dissolved land use layer, which now shows town boundaries, was imported into Idrisi Kiliminjaro as a vector file. The .vdc file was edited to assign the names of each town to the proper polygon.
