Climate change is predicted to shift or extend the range of warm-water species poleward. In 2014, the fiddler crab, Minuca (Uca) pugnax, was observed for the first time in PIE, which is north of its historical range. Beginning in 2014, density estimates were collected.
Data are collected from 10-20 randomly selected points along a 200 m transect. 0 mark is frequently the confluence of tidal creeks, except WE-L. At each point, a 0.0625m2 (except 2016 when it was 0.16 m2) quadrat was placed within the creek bank Spartina alterniflora and on the vertical surface of the creek wall. Within each quadrat, the number of burrows are quantified, in addition to any other macro-invertebrates (snails, mussels, etc).
Measurements are made in the marshes around the tidals creeks, Nelson, Clubhead, Sweeney, and West.
