Saw Mill Brook

PIE LTER year 2018, 15 minute measurements of dissolved oxygen, water temperature in a small headwater stream draining draining a highly suburban catchment (72% residential), Saw Mill Brook, Burlington, MA.

Abstract:

Year 2018, continuous measurements every 15 minutes were made of dissolved oxygen, water temperature in Saw Mill Brook, Burlington, MA, a small headwater stream draining a highly suburban catchment (72% residential).

Data set ID:

Methods:

Dissolved oxygen and water temperature were measured using a HOBO datalogger attached to the outside of a PVC pipe in the center of the stream channel.

Dissolved oxygen percent saturation was calculated using HOBOware software and barometric pressure data from the  MBL Marshview Farm Field Station, Newbury, MA.

ADDITIONAL RESEARCH LOCATION COORDINATES:  In addition to the decimal degree coordinates given above, locations are also given here in Massachusetts State Plane coordinates.  The stream is called Saw Mill Br. and is located in Burlington MA.  Small amounts of forest remain (~14% in 1999), much of which is along the stream channel near the gaging site.

STATION       STATE X           STATE Y

NOTES AND COMMENTS: HOBO dissolved oxygen loggers have a sensor cap that requires replacement every 7 months. If the logger is deployed when the sensor cap expires, no usable data is collected after that point.

FLAGS:

1 -- Datalogger not deployed
2 -- Datalogger malfunction
3 -- Datalogger was deployed but with an expired sensor cap

Maintenance:

Measurements completed for the year.
