This dataset contains the mass of dried grasses collected from clip plots in the PIE LTER Space for Time Sea Level Rise study. The space for time study uses an intensive and comprehensive approach to compare low elevation, Spartina alterniflora marsh areas to higher elevation Spartina patens marsh areas. Grasses are sampled in plots from 4 transects per site with five plots per site, arranged from the tidal creek's edge to no more than 150 meters back from the creek.

At each clip plot along a transect in the marsh in late July or early August, aboveground standing crop is estimated destructively by clipping at ground level all aboveground biomass of individual plants rooted within a 0.1 m2 (10 x 100 cm) strip at the end of sampling. Biomass is clipped adjacent to the 1-m2 quadrats. Standing crop is separated into species whether it is live or dead plant tissue. All biomass is dried at 60°C for 48hrs prior to weighing to the nearest 0.01 gram.
