Use of PIE-LTER facilities may be requested and reserved by contacting PIEfacilities@mbl.edu. The Research Station Calendar can be viewed to determine availability. Users are REQUIRED to contact PIEfacilities@mbl.edu for facility availability and permission to use boats, The calendar is for PIE researchers only and will require user name and password for access. Please click on Plum Island Ecosystems LTER Field Station Calendar for a link to the PIE calendar (URL, http://www.my.calendars.net/pielter).
The Rowley facility can house a maximum of 8 individuals. There are two bedrooms, with 4 beds in each; typically 1 room is for men, 1 for women. The Marshview Farm facility can house 13 people. For stays longer than 2 weeks check with the LTER office, PIEfacilities@mbl.edu.
Boat use REQUIRES a Boating Safety check out, contact PIEfacilities@mbl.edu. Boats available include the Growler (18' MariTime Skiff with 90HP Honda requires prior approval from LTER), Pint (16' Jon boat with 25HP Yamaha; use of the Pint should not conflict with PIE-LTER use). The Apeltes (16' Jon with 25HP Mercury) is assigned full-time to the TIDE project, but short-term use can be coordinated with this project.
Please be aware that the houses and lab will have heavy use most days, even if no one is staying overnight. If you plan to use the facilities, please read the Plum Island Coastal Field Station Guide. You are encouraged to contact anyone signed up on the days you plan to be at the house to coordinate use of lab space, equipment, boats and housing space.
At Marshview, please park vehicles in the parking area south of the barn. At the Rowley House, only 2 field vehicles are allowed to park at the house. If your project has 2 or more vehicles, park behind each other (front to rear) in the lot at the garage, pull all the way into the lot to accomplish this. Please leave 2 open spaces at garage lot for co-dock/home owner Neil Levine. Parking is also available up the road at the train station, ~$4.00/day.
